Think of director-actress teams for me. Like David Lynch & Laura Dern, Quentin Tarantino & Uma Thurman, Ingmar Bergman & Liv Ullman (right), Woody Allen & Keaton/Farrow, Jack Hill & Pam Grier. I need more. Next post: Inland Empire. Lynch loses it.

Hmmmm.... good challenge, I like. For some reason I can't think of actresses who've been in three or more, but two movies seem like it's starting a pattern, right?
Possibles:
--Todd Haynes & Julianne Moore
--Luis Buñuel & Catherine Deneuve
--Tim Burton & Helena Bonham Carter (or Lisa Marie....)
--Sofia Coppola & Kirsten Dunst
--Pedro Almodovar & Penelope Cruz/Carmen Maura/Marisa Paredes
I'm still thinking....
Hmmm...
This was tougher than I thought. Or maybe surprising is more accurate. There are some associations that seem very strong and upon doing further research, I'm surprised there's only two films, but these have at least three.
Josef von Sternberg/Marlene Dietrich
D.W. Griffith/Lillian Gish
Frank Capra/Jean Arthur
Alfred Hitchcock/Grace Kelly
Brian DePalma/Nancy Allen
Steven Soderbergh/Julia Roberts
Okay, this is more of a supporting actress dynamic, but he seemed to like working with her:
Robert Zemekis/Wendy Jo Sperber
How about these?
Minnelli-Garland
Rossellini-Bergman
Griffith-Gish
Assayas-Cheung
Waters-Divine
How about:
Fellini/Giulietta Masina
Joel Coen/Frances McDormand
Altman/Tomlin
Godard/Karina
Waters-Divine!
That's great!
TT: Haynes & Moore. Right. "I'm Not There" will be their third together.
middento: Waters-Divine. Thank you.
odio: Godard/Karina -- good one. But I'd be more inclined to peg Altman/Duvall than Altman/Tomlin. Duvall did seven films with him, Tomlin did four. And Duvall definitely needs him to succeed.
What I'm looking for are symbiotic relationships. Kind of like creator-muse, but more give-and-take. One needs the other to reach their maximum potential. I think Almodovar/Cruz will be quite a force as they continue to do projects together.
Keep 'em coming. (This is for work.)
Coen Bros / Frances McDormand
christopher guest - catherine o'hara/parker posey/jennifer coolidge
the only thing that jumped to my mind was a writer/actor connection...
nora ephron/meg ryan
though they haven't done any together in awhile...meg hasn't really done anything in awhile.
